Songwriter, Vocalist, Producer and Entertainment Operations Expert – Nina Teapot Owens talks about the moment she knew she would have a career in music and the obstacles she overcame along the way. She discusses transitioning to the business side of the industry and following her calling to “Protect the Music”. She inspires as she goes into the importance of telling her story and how she overcame fear during pivotal moments in her career.

Nina Teapot Owens is a songwriter, vocalist, producer and entertainment operations expert that is making her mark in Music City. She received her Degree in Entertainment Business from the SAE Institute Nashville where she was the valedictorian of her 2018 class. She was recently highlight in the SAE institute feature “From the Classroom to the Stage”. Nina recently directed her first music video with her sisters and megastar band The Shindellas entitled Fear Has No Place and was featured in ESSENCE for her directorial debut.

Nina launched the Nashville chapter of Writing Sessions American (WSA) in September 2016 with the support of industry friend and music executive Lonnie Deadwyler. She has since introduced the “Music City” to WSA events such as Live Radio mixers, singer-songwriter boot camps, and industry panels. As Writing Sessions America Chapter President, Nina leads the organization to provide a growth mechanism for singers, songwriters, producers, and engineers working together in collaboration to learn how to be better entrepreneurs. Recently, Nina developed her very first Master Class, partnering with Shannon Sanders (Grammy Award-Winning producer/program director of 102.1 “The Ville”) and Louis York (Grammy/Dove Award-Winning duo and founders of Weirdo Workshop).

In her role as Operations Manager for Weirdo Workshop, Nina oversees the day-to-day operations of the company which includes artist management, program and brand development, marketing and communications, merchandising and events and more. Founded by Grammy award-winning producers Chuck Harmony and Louis York, Weirdo Workshop is a music, arts and creative hub that also serves as the independent record label behind Louis York and the Shindellas. While at Weirdo Workshop Nina has spearheaded the growth of The Tiny Book Club (TBC). A program and platform that seeks to foster human connection in the digital era. Tiny Book Club brings people together to discuss books, podcasts, poetry and the arts in a safe place and in a meaningful way. Under Nina’s direction, TBC has grown to host events in multiple cities as well as formed partnerships with brands like Audible. Middle Tennesseans from across the region look forward to TBC events.

In previous roles Nina served the City of Nashville for 5 1/2 years as a 911 dispatcher helping the citizens of Music City. She has mentored young musicians at the Note For Note after school program in Nashville TN and served on the Pearl-Cohn AEC Advisory Board for 2 years. Nina’s personal mission is to develop a community of creators who will be educated in this ever-changing music industry. In her spare time she travels, writes music, creates memorable events and experiences, and spends time with her husband Chess Owens, son and their dog Mars.
